Blame it on the rain

Why are so many Americans oblivious of current events outside the U.S? I think the weather has something to do with it.

Just the other day, I began to notice that there was a weather update every 7-10 minutes on the brekkie news on all major TV networks. That's approx. 8 weather updates for hour long news broadcasts. Seriously, how much can the weather change in 7 minutes? If it's cold and rainy outside, chances are it will be cold and rainy, or at least somewhat damp outside 7 minutes later. If the Northeast is buried in 5ft. of snow, it will probably be buried in snow 7 minutes later. Is there any real utility of knowing that it is 3F warmer between the time I'm eating my brekkie and the time when I'm heading out the door?

Maybe if the media outlets spent less time reporting on the weather with their Double Doppler radars, there would be more time to report on world news.  Maybe America wouldn't be such an insular nation if the networks could just spare 5 minutes on world news each morning. I'm not suggesting that things like hurricane or blizzard developments are not important, but time devoted to the normal "partly cloudy with a chance of showers" thing is totally useless every 7 minutes.

However, morning weather reports is heaps better than the junk they have in Aus. Anything is better than the home shopping/infomercial B.S they feed you each morning. It's not a bloody special offer if the offer is made every morning, week after week.
